In line with Engi-Tech's innovation in design and development of soft sensors and actuators we have developed other soft and functional materials. Soft heaters (HeaTex) consisting of 100% woven and non-woven fibers and yarns have been successfully designed and prototyped by Engi-Tech's professionals.
These soft heaters can be easily stitched, sewn or attached to any rigid or flexible substrates. The heaters are washable and breathable. They can be powered either with a rechargeable battery or any other electrical power sources such as a Laptop's USB connection.
Maximum temperatures of 100 C has been obtained when using a USB power of 5 watts. The heaters can be packaged in different sizes and shapes as requested.
So far two types of soft heaters have been introduced by Engi-Tech, including: normal and stretchable heaters. Normal heaters (HeaTex-I) have similar softness as normal fabrics excluding the stretching characteristics. Stretchy heaters (HeaTex-II) are capable of producing heat even when they have been stretched. These former types are suitable for attachment of heater to expandable base substrates (e.g. inflatable containers).
Apart from generating heat using these special layered textiles, Engi-Tech is also investigating the design and development of multi-functional stretchy heaters. These new types will have embedded sensors such as temperature sensors and strain gauges as additional features for more specific applications.
One of the most popular application examples of the above heaters will be in heating vests, jackets, and coats used for sports and medical devices. Engi-Tech is now working on expanding applications of these heaters to other fields in the military and for consumer products.
Engi-Tech welcomes any collaboration work related to HeaTex technologies. For further information on Engi-Tech's services on the HeaTex technologies please send your inquiries to info@engi-tech.ca
